N grunted and rolled over in bed, the howling winds outside splattering rain noisily against the window, distracting him from focusing on getting to sleep. It had started raining shortly before he and his wife, Touko, went to bed, but it had quickly escalated into a ravaging storm. N gave a silent thanks that he had a warm, sturdy house he was safe in. There had been many nights when he hadn't...
A sudden noise almost made him sit up. It was extremely faint, especially with the storm outside, but N's abnormally keen hearing picked it up. He lay still, listening. Someone was calling him and Touko.
"Daaaadddyyyy...!" he heard a muffled wail from down the hall, just heard over the rain.
"Nemises." N quickly sat up, throwing the covers off his body. Touko groaned and rolled over.
"Babe...Did Nemy wake up...?" she murmured.
"Yeah," N answered before entering the hallway. He hastily walked down the corridor, lightning illuminating his surroundings. As he got closer to his daughter's room, he could hear her cries more clearly.
"Daaaaddyy! Mooommmmyy!"
He creaked open to door to Nemises' room and turned on a nearby lamp. He could see a lump huddled under the fluffy covers of Nemises' bed, trembling.
"Nemy? Sweetie?" he called softly.
The lump wriggled, and the terrified, teary-eyed face of his five year-old peeped out, barely visible under the comforter.
She sniffled, tears leaking out of her eyes.
"D-Daddyyyy..." she whimpered.
I'm scared."
A lightning bolt suddenly ripped through the sky, followed by a clap of thunder that shook the house. Nemises let out a high-pitched shriek and burrowed under her covers again. N let out the tiniest of smiles despite himself, finding everything his daughter did adorable. He sat down on Nemises' bed and reached under the covers. He pulled Nemises, who was curled up in a ball clutching her stuffed Purrloin, out from underneath and settled her on his lap, hugging her comfortingly.
"It's alright honey, it's ok," he soothed.
Nemises pressed her face into her father's nightshirt, grasping at it with her small hand. She placed the tip of her thumb in her mouth, keeping her arm wrapped tightly around her plushie. N placed a kiss on her forehead before stroking her head, his fingers gliding over her hair.
"The big storm isn't going to hurt you. You're safe inside," he reassured her.
Nemises sniffed and wiped her eyes before another thunderclap made her squeak in fright again.
"Daddy, I'm scared," she repeated, her voice small and young.
"I know sweetheart, but you're safe, I promise."
N started to gently rock his little daughter back and forth, keeping his arms wrapped around her. Very quickly, Nemises' eyes started to droop.
"I love you, Nemy," N murmured.
"Love you, Daddy..." Nemises mumbled sleepily.
As N continued to rock her, her eyes slowly closed and she fell asleep, her thumb starting to slip out of her mouth. Outside, the storm had started to subside. It died down to a steady, soothing rain as Nemises had fallen asleep.
N smiled, and gently lay his daughter back in her bed and tucked the covers snugly around her. He then took her numerous stuffed toys and place them all around her.
They'll protect you from any more storms. he promised silently, leaning down to plant a kiss on her cheek. He tiptoed to the door, switched off the light, then slowly closed the door behind him.

N was awakened once again by a thunderous crash outside. He let a frustrated grumble roll out of his mouth; another storm was raging outside.
Next to him, Touko groaned and rolled over to snuggle against him.
"Another one...? That's the third one this week..." she murmured sleepily.
"Yes...and they're abnormally fierce. Do you think it might be Thundurus?" N wondered.
"It couldn't be...Thundurus doesn't visit the same place in such a short time frame," Touko replied.
N was silent, shrugged, then rolled over to snuggle his dear wife, her soft chocolate-colored hair scattered over her pillow.
As N started to drift off, he suddenly heard a rapid thumping from outside in the hall. It sounded like small feet pattering against the hardwood floor. Then, the door to Touko and N's bedroom flew open and hit the wall with a loud crash, causing both of them to shoot up in bed. Nemises burst into the room, bawling. She scrambled up onto her parent's bed, wailing loudly. N let out a grunt of pain as she clambered desperately over him, and dove under the covers.
"N-Nemy, calm down," N panted, out of breath from  Nemises' foot stamping into his stomach.
Touko tugged her little girl out from underneath the covers and gave her a big hug as N turned on the light. Nemises buried her face in her mother's shirt, shaking with fright.
"Honey, it's ok. The storm isn't going to hurt you," Touko kissed her daughter's head.
"I-It's not j-just the s-s-storm!" Nemises wailed. Tears were streaming down her face. She was hugging her stuffed Purrloin so tightly, its head was in danger of popping off.
"I w-was laying in b-bed, then I heard a t-tapping on my window. W-When I p-peeked out from under my c-covers t-to look..."
Her face screwed up as she cried harder.
"T-T-There w-was a blue Pokémon making s-s-scary f-faces at me!" she sobbed.
N stared. A blue Pokémon? In front of Nemises' window? They were two stories up, what Pokémon could reach her window, and in a storm such as this?
"It's ok Nemises. There's no scary Pokémon in here," N reassured her. Outside, lightning crackled loudly. Nemises yelped and jumped, hugging N's neck tightly.
"Nemises, sweetie, storms are nothing to be afraid of."
N sat Nemises in his lap. She looked up at him, her eyes wide and scared.
"See, Nemy, all lightning is is a stream of electrons traveling from the sky to the ground, or from cloud to cloud. The lightning is three times hotter than the surface of the Sun, and it makes the air around it really hot. When this superheated air cools, it creates a resonating tube of partial vacuum-"
"N!" Touko smacked his arm, interrupting him.
She doesn't understand a word you're saying."
N looked down at his daughter. Sure enough, Nemises was staring at him with a look of utmost confusion.
How am I supposed to explain to her why thunderstorms aren't scary without explaining the mechanisms of what makes the scary things work?
Maybe I should try a more humorous approach...

He suddenly looked around shiftily, and then leaned in close to Nemises.
"Did you know...Zekrom is a secret part time Poké model?" he whispered in her ear. Nemises' eyes widened.
"Whenever it's raining, he goes up into the clouds and does secret Poké model photo shoots. Some of the lightning flashes are him showing off, others are the cameras."
"Really?" Nemises breathed.
"Why yes. Ask your mother, she knows all about it." N turned and looked at Touko, who seemed startled she had suddenly been put on the spot to explain a far-fetched story.
"...Of course! Good ol' Zekrom, he's famous!" she said, a grin spreading across her face. She looked out the window; the lightning had grown more frequent.
"Look at those cameras go! He's gonna be on the cover of all the magazines!"
Nemises eyes widened even more, and her face filled with an innocent, child-like wonder.
"But what about thunder?" she asked as another clap of thunder issued outside.
"That's Thundurus farting, of course," N said.
"What??" Touko pulled a face at N's immature explanation. He gave her a "sorry but I had to" look. However, Nemises was looking down at her stuffed toy, a thoughtful expression on her face.
"Thundurus has really bad gas then, doesn't he...?" she murmured to herself.
A sudden tapping made them all turn towards the window. A large blue Pokémon was sitting on a cloud behind the glass, pulling faces. In truth, the faces were quite silly, but the lightning flashing outside made them look pretty grotesque and scary. Nemises screamed and threw her arms around her father.
"D-DADDY!!" she bawled, trembling like a leaf.
N hugged his daughter tightly, trying to calm her down. Touko, however, shook her fist at the window.
"God da- I mean, GOSH DARN IT Thundurus! Stop scaring my daughter with your farts! Go fart somewhere else!" she shouted.
N suddenly grinned and snorted, a cackle rising in the back of his throat. He did not expect his wife to say that. Thundurus pulled one last face, then swooped out of sight. The thunderstorm only weakened a little, though. Touko sighed irritably.
"I'll have to try and find Landorus and see if he can do anything about this. Thundurus probably saw the storms scared Nemy, and decided to tease her some more."
N looked down at the little girl who was still clinging to him.
"It's alright now Nemy, the Pokémon is gone now," he said quietly.
Nemises loosened her grip on her father, but didn't leave the bed.
"Can I sleep with you and Mommy tonight...?" she whimpered.
"Of course, sweetheart," Touko replied before N could, ruffling her five year-old's long green hair.
"Do you need any more plushies? Is Claudia ok?" she asked.
Nemises gave her fluffy Purrloin plushie a squeeze.
"I'm ok with Claudia..."
She snuggled into the space between her parents, her face slipping between the gap between their pillows. Touko and N looked at each other and chuckled,
N scooted his pillow further under Nemises' head. As another roll of thunder rumbled overhead and lightning flashed, Nemises squeaked and squirmed deeper into the covers. N flipped off the light, and put an arm around his small daughter, he felt Touko do the same.
"Goodnight Nemy," they murmured.
"'Night..." she murmured sleepily.
I hope Zekrom stops his photo shoot soon and gets some sleep. I wanna ask him all about it tomorrow..."
N smiled in the dark.
"I'm sure he'll be delighted to tell you all about it," he said.
I really wanted to do another story with N and Touko as parents so I did.

The next morning, Touko and N had Zoroark Illusion Zekrom the secret Poké model onto all the magazines Nemy saw for the next few days. She was really excited and asked Zekrom all about it.

Nemises has Astraphobia, or the fear of thunderstorms.
Also Thundurus is a jerk.
N usually explains the science behind things, but of course that doesn't really work to try and comfort a scared five year-old.
What's funny about N's explanation is Nemises ends up becoming a model when she gets older.
Maybe this story played a role in it, we'll never know. ;o

Hooray for fart humor :v

Nemises is my FWS fan child and belongs to me.
